Ornate Baroque frame
This is a reproduction of an Italian ornate Baroque frame carved and gilded on lime. This early 17th-century model is available in any size, so you can order it for any painting.
Structural properties of the ornate Baroque frame
This ornate Baroque frame is made with lime and tulipwood. We use lime on the front side and tulipwood on the back side, obtaining maximum strength with minimum weight.
You can customize the rabbet width as you prefer. For instance, if you need to cover a more significant part of the painting, you can ask to enlarge it. The rabbet depth, instead, depends on the thickness of the painting. In most of our models, it is between 1.5 and 4 cm. Sometimes, it is even more profound due to structural reasons or upon request.

Ornate Baroque frame decorations
The carving is handmade, and this is one of our most expensive frames. We make this model entirely by observing the ancient techniques because the carvings are too big to be made with wood pulp. See below a video showing the master carver in action.
The video above shows how to realize the carving process. Only the carving process can take up to 50 working hours for a medium-size frame.
Patina (aging process)
“Patina” is an Italian word that refers to how dark and old the frame looks. Apart from dark gold, the age of a frame is determined by a few cracks and tiny broken parts around the sides. For this purpose, our gilder hits its surfaces with stones.
Also, the wormholes are simulated, and you can notice them by deeply analyzing the pictures above. Wormholes do not indicate activity within or a recent flight of beetles. Remember that we faked them to age this ornate Baroque frame precisely.
See below a video showing all the steps of the Patina.
