Gold Baroque Frame

Reproduction of a gold Baroque frame gilt on lime. This early 17th-century model is available in any size, therefore, it is suitable for any painting.

Structural properties

This gold Baroque frame is made with lime and tulipwood combined together. We use lime for the front side and tulipwood for the backside of the frame. As a result, we obtain the maximum strength with the minimum weight.

You can customize the rabbet width as you prefer. For instance, if you need to cover a bigger part of the painting you can ask to enlarge it. The rabbet depth instead, depends on the thickness of the painting. In most of our models, it is something between 1.5 to 4 cm. Sometimes even deeper due to structural reasons or under request.

Gold Baroque frame decorations

The decorations of this gold baroque frame are in wood pulp. We explain the entire process of our innovative technique in the video below. Watching the video, you will notice the wood pulp decorations already mounted along the four sides of the frame.

When the master carver starts carving them, you will instantly see how soft is the wood pulp compared to wood. The carver goes through the procedure of refreshing any detail of the ornaments by chisels. That way, the frame gets well-balanced with harmonious forms.

This is a very new technique that we use to achieve a terrific result. We use it to decrease the number of working hours. As a result, you will save a lot of money without losing quality. Remember that the shape of the carving will be perfect, and even its resistance will be the same as if it were made of wood.

Patina (aging process)

“Patina” is an Italian word that refers to how dark and old looks the frame. Apart from dark gold, the age of a gold Baroque frame is determined by a few cracks and tiny broken parts all around the sides. For this purpose, our gilder hits its surfaces with some kinds of stones.

Also, the wormholes are simulated as well, and you will be able to notice them by analyzing deeply the pictures above. The presence of wormholes does not indicate activity within or a recent flight of beetles. Remember that they were faked by us to specifically age the frame.

See below a video showing all the steps of the Patina.
