Since 1905 Federici Workshop has been specialized in Baroque Picture Frames Reproductions. Baroque style was born in Rome around thebeginning od 17th century. The Catholic chuch encoureged the production of a very complex style to show the power of itself. Baroque art has been manifested in several disiplines as sculpture, painting and archichecture. Even in frames remain available a wonderful rich collection of Baroque Picture Frames.
To remember just few great painters of Baroque era we can mention: Annibale Carracci, Caravaggio, Velázquez and Rubens. We’ve mentioned two italian paintor , one spanish paintor and one flemish to remember the Baroque style invested the entire Eurupe from early 17th to mid 18th century. All the old master paintintings of these painters have a fine Baroque Picture Frame. Even if Flemish, Spanish, Franch an Italian Baroque frames are very different concerning shape and forms they have still in common the beauty of their complex ornates.
In the major field of antique picture frames Federici Workshop (Italin name for NowFrames) dedicated a lot of time in Reproduction of Baroque Frames. As Our workshop is located in Bologna – Italy, the original region of Carracci, we have here in our town a great tradition about Baroque style frames. We reproduce our models watching and carefully studying the original Baroque Picture Frames of the the National Art Gallery of Bologna. (Our major museum in town).
For more than a century Federici Workshop has worked for the major museums all over the world. In many cases they cintact us to frame an old master painting with a missing frame. They look among the models of our collection and ask to realise one of them with some very specific size. Our strength is be able to provide any single model of frames in any particular size. They sometimes ask for a change in the shape, in the ornates or in the finishing.
Sometimes museums ask even for the more complex work of copy an original Baroque frame. In that case we study the photos they sent us, and we draw some samples. After the process of drawing we choose the best solution and we carve a little peace of every ornates. We than prepare a molding for every different ornate of the frame. When the moulding process is finished we create the ornates in using wood pulp. We mount them upon the frame and we carefully recarve the wood pulp to make it look as sharp and nice.

Here in Laboratorio Federici we think that innovative techniques are the best! Why we think like that? We are able to do rames by using ancient and very classic techiniques but we recognize that sometimes they are a waste of time. They could even be a waste of material resources. We belong to a new generation of craftmen devoted to recicling. Wood pulp is a beautiful material made for 99% of wood. There is a 1% of something else that create a very handy pulp that we can use in our moulding. This process allow to save a huge amount of working hours and to save a lot of threes.
So what about the final result?
